A man was picked up from a Penrith takeaway and driven round town before being assaulted and robbed.

It happened between 5am and 6am yesterday.

The victim, a 45-year-old man from Penrith, was left with facial injuries.

Police have arrested a man and women on suspicion of robbery.

The incident started when the offenders, who were travelling in a silver Audi A3, picked up the victim from McDonald's car park.

He was driven around Penrith, before stopping at the town's KFC car park.

The offenders then assaulted the man and stole his bag.

He suffered facial injuries, but these were not serious.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, both from South Shields in the north east.

They are currently in police custody.

Officers investigating the incident are appealing to anyone who saw a silver Audi A3 in the town between 5am and 6am on Saturday, or anyone who was in the McDonald's or KFC car parks, to contact DC Sarah Edgar on 101.
