Air paramedics had to put a man in a medically-induced coma, after a fall at his Carlisle home.
Doctors and paramedics on board the Great North Air Ambulance were called to help ambulance crews, following the incident yesterday morning.
A spokesman for the air ambulance charity said they were called to the property in Denton Holme at about 1.15pm.
A man in his forties had fallen and suffered a serious head injury.
The Pride of Cumbria aircraft landed in St James' Park.
"The man was put into a medically induced coma by the GNAAS aircrew before being flown to the Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary within 25 minutes," the spokesman added.
His condition was described as "life-threatening".
The air crew was called this morning, at just after 9.10am, to reports of a man collapsing at a Cumbrian holiday park.
The helicopter was dispatched to Whinfell Forest, near Penrith, the home of popular holiday destination Center Parcs.
A man in his sixties had collapsed.
He was treated by on-site medical staff, North West Ambulance Service paramedics and the GNAAS crew, before being take to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary by road.
He is said to be critically ill.
