A householder infuriated by children who had water bombed him became so angry that he armed himself with a kitchen knife and brandished it at them.

At Carlisle Crown Court, 32-year-old Rafal Nieznalski, of Tait Street, Carlisle, admitted possessing a bladed article in a public place.

The judge ruled that a second allegation of affray, which the defendant denied, should be allowed to lie on file.

Paul Tweedle, for Nieznalski, said the defendant - living in Raffles Avenue, Raffles, at the time of the offence in August - was tormented by the children and had simply "lost his rag".

Mr Justice William Davis, sitting at Carlisle Crown Court, described the offence as "silly" and imposed four weeks jail.

The defendant was released immediately because he has already served 14 days on remand.
