A man has been arrested following a fatal house fire in Cumbria.
A 67-year-old woman who lives at the address suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where she later died.
Police have a 38-year-old man in custody who was arrested in connection with the incident which happened in the early hours today.
Cumbria Police and the fire service continue to work together on investigations into the blaze in the centre of Kendal.
Firefighters were called to Stramongate at around 2.40am.
Five casualties in total received medical assistance from paramedics and firefighters.
The woman was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary where she later died.
Firefighters, two wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to bring the blaze under control.
Fire crews from Kendal, Milnthorpe and Staveley were at the scene for around three hours.
Officers say they are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident at this time but would like to hear from anyone who has yet to come forward and who may have information which could assist their investigation.
