A man with a provisional driving licence took a van without permission or insurance while twice over the alcohol limit and crashed it, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
Andrew Bennett, 31, of Berrymoor Road, Brampton, had 121mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood – the legal limit is 80mg - when the incident occurred.
He took a Transit Van without the owner's permission or any insurance and crashed along the A6071, Brampton, causing damage to a hedge and fence on Friday, February 3.
Magistrates sitting in Carlisle disqualified Bennett from driving for 18 months and imposed a community order under which he must do 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.
Bennett, who pleaded guilty to all charges, must also pay £387.60 in compensation and court costs of £85.
