A jury in the trial of two men accused of raping a woman, has retired to consider its verdicts.

Stuart Milne, 37, and Terry Parry, 30, have each denied an allegation that they raped an 18-year-old woman in Whitehaven.

Milne has also pleaded not guilty to a separate sex assault.

The charges relate to incidents which are said to have occurred late at night in the town's St Nicholas Gardens.

Milne and Parry are on trial at Carlisle Crown Court, where today Judge Peter Hughes QC summed up the case to jurors.

This followed seven days of evidence, and closing speeches by the respective prosecution and defence counsel in the case.

The jury of seven women and five men was then sent out to consider verdicts in relation to the three charges.

They were sent home for the night, and are due to resume their deliberations in the morning.

In the meantime Milne and Parry, both of Bow Fell Road, Whitehaven, were remanded on bail.
