The largest wooden playground in the UK opens its doors in Cumbria next week.

One hundred children in fancy dress have been invited to a dragon-themed garden party in the grounds of Lowther Castle on Tuesday.

The party will end with a waterfight on the castle lawn.

The playground is modelled on the castle itself and has been made from 11 miles of sustainably-sourced timber.

It is the brainchild of castle owner Jim Lowther and is built high in the tree canopy.

Mr Lowther said: “We wanted to create something remarkable, designed to delight children and grown-ups in equal measure.

“I’m astounded at how beautiful it is, nestled high in the treetops, overlooking the woodland planted by my father.

“The Lost Castle captures the spirit of Lowther and it will delight generations of children visiting the castle.”

The playground is open to the public from August 2, everyday from 10am to 5pm in summer and 10am to 4pm in winter.

Admission is £8 for adults and £7 for children.
