AN injured man was rescued by firefighters from scaffolding in Carlisle.

Crews from the city's east and west fire stations were called out to Castlesteads Drive, Yewdale, at about 10am today, where the casualty, a builder, dislocated his knee 20ft up the structure.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed that they were called to a private address and took a man the Cumberland Infirmary.

Bruce Wilson, crew manager for Carlisle, said: "He was doing an extension on the property, a semi-detached house, and he dislocated his knee. He was stuck on the first floor of the extension and once he dislocated he knee he couldn't get out of the building because there was scaffolds up and ladders. There was no stairs."

A was secured up in a stretcher and carried to safety by firefighters.
