A west Cumbrian nail bar has been closed down for 48 hours after a raid by immigration officers.

Two illegal workers – a 22-year-old man from Vietnam whose application for asylum had been refused and a 21-year-old Vietnamese woman who had entered the country illegally – were found at Diamond Nails, on Oxford Street, when Immigration Enforcement visited the premises yesterday.

In November, three illegal workers were found at the Diamond Nails branch in Church Street, Whitehaven, and the business was fined £30,000.

It did not pay the fine.

Under new powers, Immigration Enforcement can close any business for 48 hours while it applies for an order for the business to comply to stricter measures over its staff and allow immigration officers to inspect the premises.

The order would apply to all branches of the nail bar.

The two illegal workers have been arrested.
