A community turned out in force today to give Corporal Josh Hoole a fitting send off.

The 26-year-old from Ecclefechan, near Lockerbie, died last week in Brecon Beacons, Wales, during a training exercise.

Hundreds of residents from his home village lined High Street this afternoon to pay tribute to the soldier, who was a member of The Rifles regiment. A group of Josh's uniform-clad colleagues joined the community.

The funeral procession was led down the road by a piper before the cortege made their way to Crichton Memorial Church in Dumfries for a private service.

Mourners spoke of their support for Josh's family and said they turned out to show their respects.

Josh is the son of 54-year-old Carlisle man Phillip Hoole, a former sergeant major in the British Army.

Mr Hoole now works with youngsters with behavioural issues at William Howard School in Brampton.
