Music lovers refused to allow the weather to stop them at Maryport’s Glassonbury festival.

Six hundred of the 700 available tickets were sold for Saturday's event.

Spokesman, James Moore, said: “I think that is an excellent result considering how wet it has been today.

“People have huddled in the club house during the worst downpours. But the programme has run smoothly and everyone has been enjoying the

music,” he said.

Glassonbury this year was raising money for the Henderson Suite at the West Cumberland Hospital.

“We will not know how much we raised until later in the week. It might not be quite as much as other years when we have had a capacity crowd but I think, considering the weather, we have done very well.”

He said there was a great atmosphere and people had dressed appropriately to enjoy the music even if they had to listen to it in the rain.

North Eastern band, Boomin, topped the bill with music that ranged from music popular today to their ever popular Grease mega mix.

They were joined by Collision a mainly Workington band who provided something for everyone in their wide repertoire of covers

Buyers’ Club, an increasingly popular Maryport band hailing from entertained with a set that included everything from Arctic Monkeys to Led Zeppelin.

Also on the bill were Five and Dangerous with well known West Cumbrian entertainer Pecker Woods on vocals.

Penrith rock duo, Rock Lobster had them dancing to the beat and Daley the lead singer from Party Rockers changed gear to do a solo acoustic set.

Out on Bail, another rising local band, completed the bill on a wet, windy but still successful day.
