FORECASTERS are warning that gales could hit northern parts of Cumbria and southern Scotland through the night and into Thursday.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind for much of Scotland, stretching down into northern England.
The warning is valid between 1am and 1pm on Thursday.
Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely in many areas, whilst the strongest winds - of around 75mph - are possible across northern stretches of Scotland and its islands late tomorrow morning.
Commuters have been told that the bad weather could lead to minor travel disruption with some bridge restrictions in place in Scotland, and possible damage to trees and structures.
