The following defendants have now been sentenced for part in the “cash for crash” insurance fraud.

It was organised by Mark McCracken, who was jailed for seven years after he admitted 13 frauds and possessing false ID documents with improper intent.

  • Craig Palmer , 43, of Balfour Road, Carlisle. 15 months jail

  • Richard Miller , 43, of Springfields, Wigton: 18 months jail;

  • Duncan Pape , 53, of Wigton Road, Carlisle: 15 months jail;

  • Stuart Wise , 27, of Friars Garth, Abbeytown (fraud): 9 months jail;

  • Stuart Bell , 36, of Deer Park, Wigton: 2 years jail;

  • Darren Snowdon , 43, of Brookside, Carlisle: 4 months jail;

  • Jonathan Scott , 40, of Deer Park, Wigton: 9 months jail;

  • Michelle Lockhart , 36, of Meadow Road, Wigton: 12 month jail;

  • and Peter Farish , 44, of Cumwhinton Drive, Carlisle (fraud): 12 months jail.

The following sentences were also handed out for defendants convicted of the fraud:

  • Stephen Slater , 48, of Yewdale Road, Carlisle: 9 months jail suspended, 100 hours unpaid work, and £750 compensation;

  • Deborah Norris , 47, of Yewdale Road, Carlisle: 12 months jail suspended, £1,500 compensation;

  • Lorraine Todd , 63, of Inglewood, Waverton, Wigton: 8 months jail suspended, three month curfew, and £750 compensation;

  • Philip Crothers , 26, formerly no fixed abode: 9 months suspended, 100 hours unpaid work, £400 compensation;

  • Kerry Swales , 42, of Shadygrove Road, Carlisle: 100 hours unpaid work, and £1,000 compensation:

  • Kerry Richardson , 33, of Shadygrove Road, Carlisle: 9 months jail suspended, a three month curfew and £2,000 compensation;

  • Garry Ruddy , 41, of Oxford Street, Millom: 15 months jail suspended, 150 hours unpaid work and £500 compensation;

  • Natalie Edgeler , 27, of Salthouse Road, Millom: 9 months jail suspended, 100 hours unpaid work and £600 compensation;

  • Stephen Edgeler , 46, of Devonshire road, Millom: 9 months jail suspended, a three month curfew, and £600 compensation;

  • Dominic Scott , 32, of Edward Street, Carlisle: two year community order, and 75 hours unpaid work.

  • Robert Skelton , 39, of Ruleholme, Irthington: 12 months jail suspended, £100 compensation, and 30 hours rehabilitation;

  • Sarah Dawson , 44, of Angle Meadow Lane, Barrow-in-Furness: 6 months jail suspended, 100 hours unpaid work, £350 compensation;

  • Andrew Dawson , 46, of Harrison Street, Barrow-in-Furness: 6 months jail suspended, 100 hours unpaid work, £480 compensation;

  • Diane Dutton , 40, of Durham street, Barrow-in-Furness: 6 months jail suspended, 100 hours unpaid work, £750 compensation;

  • Melanie Stead , 40, of Dickens Drive, Catterick Garrison: 12 months jail suspended, and 200 hours unpaid work;

  • Charmaine Cochrane , 30, of Aisne Road, Colchester: community order, 50 hours unpaid work, £1,500 compensation;

  • Rachel Scott , 39, of Deer Park, Wigton: 9 months jail suspended, and three months curfew;

  • Danielle Hayton , 25, of Dowbeck Road, Carlisle: 6 months jail suspended, and 75 hours unpaid work;

  • Lucy Malloy , 26, of Dowbeck Road, Carlisle: 4 months jail suspended, 100 hours unpaid work, and £2,000 compensation;

  • Stacey Crook , 27, of Chesterholm, Carlisle: 6 months jail suspended and £1,000 compensation;

  • David Louden , 31, of Chesterholm, Carlisle: 6 months jail suspended and £1,000 compensation;

  • Paul Wells , 36, of Friars Garth, Abbeytown: 6 months jail suspended, three month curfew, and £750 compensation;

  • Terence Andrews , 48, of Oakwood End, Abbeytown: 6 months jail suspended, a three month curfew, and £750 compensation.

  • Ian Shadforth , 51, of Newton Terrace Millom: 12 months suspended, 100 hours unpaid work, and £500 compensation;
