Former crowd favourite Richard Keogh is the latest former Carlisle United player to offer his services to a major charity match at Brunton Park this month.

Keogh, who attracted cult status among Blues supporters during his two-year spell at the club, is ready to return for a cameo appearance in the game for Tony Hopper.

Ireland international defender Keogh is now captain of Championship club Derby County.

His involvement in the game on Sunday, May 21 will see him reunited with some of his former Blues team-mates also taking part, including Peter Murphy and Chris Lumsdon.

The 30-year-old will join a host of former favourites from both United and Workington for a game being held in tribute to Cumbrian former midfielder Tony Hopper, who is battling motor neurone disease.

The game at Carlisle's ground will raise money for four charities, including the MND Association.

Also set to be involved are Hopper's former United youth and first-team colleague Paul Murray.

And former striker Paul Proudlock, who was in the Blues team when Hopper made his first-team debut aged 16, has also agreed to play.

They will join a star-studded cast of former and current players, including Stephane Pounewatchy, Matt Jansen, Rory Delap, Grant Holt, Dean Walling, Steve Hayward, David Reeves and Rod Thomas.

Mick Wadsworth and Ian Atkins will take charge of the Carlisle team, with Dave Hewson and Darren Edmondson managing the Workington line-up.

Tickets are £5 and all proceeds will be shared by the MND Association, Carlisle United Community Sports Trust, Great North Air Ambulance and Jigsaw Hospice.

They are available from United's ticket office, the Cumberland Building Society on Fisher Street in Carlisle, Hodgson's Newsagents on Lowther Street, McCall's Bakery on Upperby Road and YESSS Electrical on Currock Road.

The News & Star is also backing the Hopper family's bid to raise cash and awareness for the MND Association with our Fighting Back for Tony campaign.

The Hoppers' fightback fund, which has been boosted by a range of charity initiatives, has already passed the £10,000 mark, with the money to be used by the MND's north and west Cumbria group.
