The deadline for flood-hit householders and business owners to apply for grants of up to £5,000 has been extended to allow people longer to apply.

The Property Flood Resilience Grant scheme helps those affected by last December's storms to fund additional flood defence work in their homes and businesses.

The deadline for applications was previously the end of December this year but this has now been extended until March 31 next year. The date by which work should be completed has also been extended until June 30.

Adrian Todd, Eden District Council’s services portfolio holder, said: “The deadline extension is good news and affords people extra time to seek advice about what flood resilience or resistance measures are appropriate for their homes or businesses."
