Firefighters are tackling a house fire in Workington.

Two fire engines and a car are at the incident in Frostoms Road.

The road has been closed.

The blaze is understood to be on the first floor of the house.

Police officers are also at the scene.

David Ellwood, 47, spotted the fire from his garden, a few houses away from the property on fire, and kicked the door open to check if anyone was trapped inside.

He said: "We saw the smoke coming up all of a sudden. It was coming out of the window.

"I went upstairs to see what was going on and shouted 'is anybody there', but I had no answer.

"I threw a bucket of water but that didn't do anything. I came back down stairs once I made sure there was no one in the house."

He added that emergency services arrived at the scene as he was getting out of the property.

He said: "People are saying it was a TV that exploded that caused it.

"When I went in the house I wasn't scared, I was just concerned for my neighbours."

Emergency services are still at the scene.
