A fell runner collapsed and suffered a broken collar bone during the Anniversary Waltz race in the Lake District.

The 60-year-old athlete was at the summit of Robinson, near Keswick, when the incident happened about 1pm on Saturday.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called out and set off just 15 minutes after being alerted while assistance was also requested from the air ambulance given the casualty’s pain and the danger of hypothermia at a very exposed location.

The second team vehicle left five minutes later and crews of both vehicles went on to the fell from the top of Newlands Hause.

The man was assessed and was taken to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary by the Great North Air Ambulance.

The call-out lasted more than two hours.
