A West Cumbrian carnival could be cancelled at the last minute if volunteers do not come forward soon.

A small committee has revived the Maryport carnival which stopped because of a lack of money and helpers.

It is due to be held on Saturday July 8 and all the preparations have been carried out.

But Gary Hampson, who is in charge with security on the route, said there is still a chance that it will not go ahead.

"We desperately need volunteers to act as stewards along the route. If we don't get enough the police will simply not allow it to go ahead."

Organisers are asking volunteers to contact them urgently through the Maryport Carnival Facebook page.
