Cumbria's famous Herdwick breed took centre stage at one of the county's most traditional agricultural shows.

The Buttermere Shepherds' Meet dates all the way back to the 1800s and continues to attract top quality sheep.

It originally began as social event, and a way for shepherds to return stray sheep to those on neighbouring farms.

Over the years it has evolved, but continues in its tradition of bringing Cumbria's shepherding community together.

Taking place in Buttermere village, this year's meet attracted more than 200 sheep and organiser Pauline Blair said the standard was fantastic across the board.

The only downside was a lower than hoped number of visitors, partly hit by the wrong date being advertised in tourism circles.

However those that did turn out enjoyed a trip back in time to celebrate the Lake District's strong Herdwick tradition.
