A former soldier who attacked his pregnant partner while high on alcohol and cocaine has been sentenced by a judge.
Carlisle Crown Court heard how Russell Burns turned on Jennifer Carr at her Whitehaven home having become paranoid after taking the class A drug.
Neighbours became aware of a late night disturbance on May 29.
One went to the aid of Miss Carr, who was 18 weeks pregnant at the time.
Burns, 30, admitted assaulting Miss Carr, causing her actual bodily harm.
He was sentenced by Judge Barbara Forrester.
It was said the victim "appeared to have forgiven Burns", who had been in custody since committing the offence.
After reading background information and hearing mitigation, Judge Forrester suspended a 32-week prison sentence for two years.
Burns, of Colliers Way, Whitehaven, must complete 120 hours of unpaid work, a rehabilitation requirement and a three-month night time curfew.
He must also attend a "building better relationships" course.
