Both police and fire crews were called to a crash on the A69 following reports that a heavy goods vehicle had crashed into a hedge.
Firefighters from both the city's east and west stations attended the scene, near Greenholme Lodge Farm, at Corby Hill, shortly before 6.45pm.
However they were not required to free anyone from the vehicle.
A spokeswoman for Cumbria police said that the driver was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary to be checked over and that the road was closed for a short while.
