An elderly woman was scammed out of cash by a man posing as a roofer.
The man entered the woman's house in Boundary Road, Carlisle, through an unlocked back door, say police.
He then told her that her roof was damaged and demanded cash to fix it which the woman handed over.
"However, he then left without carrying out any of the work," said a police spokesman.
It happened sometime between 4pm and 5pm on Thursday, September 15.
The man is described as being white, 6ft tall and having a local accent. The victim said the man was neat, with short dark hair, clean shaven and "rugged".
Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
