Drivers are facing a detour of almost six miles due to the closure of a north Cumbrian road for repairs.

The U3045, from its junction with the C3015 Aiketgate to the C1040 at Blackmoss Pool, was closed today.

It is not expected to be shut to vehicles for more than five days.

Travelling the 0.8 mile route usually takes a couple of minutes - but motorists now face a 5.8 mile drive via Cotehill.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times, says Cumbria County Council.

Vehicles can use an alternative route via the C3015, A6, U1166 and C1040.
