A SUSPENDED jail sentence and four year driving ban were imposed on a Penrith man after he was caught driving three times over the alcohol limit.

Timothy Bird, 59, of Birkdale House, was caught over the limit while driving a Toyota Yaris on Sunday, May 22, along Brunswick Road, Penrith.

He had 294mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood - three and a half times over the legal limit of 80mg.

Bird pleaded guilty to the offence at North and West Magistrates' Court sitting in Carlisle.

As well as the suspended prison sentence, Bird was disqualified for four years and must undertake rehabilitation for two years.

He must also pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £115.
