A motorist who crashed into a parked car while drink driving in the Lake District has been banned from the road.

Clare Ellen Kelso, 20, told magistrates sitting at Carlisle's Rickergate courts complex that she had been drinking with friends after work and had then gone on to a party at a farmhouse.

She drank lager and Jager bombs.

Kelso decided to drive home because she could not find the friend she was meant to to be walking home with, she told the court.

But as did so, she crashed her Ford Fiesta into a parked car, her own car overturning as a result.

In court, Kelso, from Glenridding, admitted a single offence of drink driving.

She apologised to the court, saying that what she had done on the evening of September 10 had been out of character.

At the time she had 61mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood. The legal limit is 35mgs.

Magistrates imposed an 18 month disqualification. She was also fined £180, with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
