A man accused of two police assaults and animal neglect has been remanded in custody.
Peter John Elliott, 49, is charged in relation to alleged incidents in the Appleby area on November 7 last year.
When Elliott appeared at Carlisle Magistrates' Court last week, he pleaded not guilty to three allegations.
These were causing unnecessary suffering to a dog by neglect, assaulting a police constable, thereby occasioning actual bodily harm and assaulting a different officer with intent to resist arrest.
Elliott, whose address was given as Heights, near Appleby, was remanded in custody but lodged an application for bail, which was heard by city magistrates.
He was told he must remain in custody until his next magistrates' court appearance on March 23.
