A Cumbrian branch of Debenhams is closed today due to a power fault.

No other shops in the Washington Square shopping complex in Workington are affected.

An Electricity North West spokesman said the problem was caused by a fault with the store's own metering unit rather than the electricity network.

It was reported at 6.15pm last night.

The spokesman said it was unrelated to an issue affecting the power supply to 15 customers in the town.

The store is due to reopen tomorrow.

A Debenhams spokesman said: β€œAt around 5.30pm last night Debenhams Workington lost power due to a fault with the local electricity supply. The store was immediately closed, and staff were sent home.

"Staff are being kept informed of the situation, and we expect for power to be restored in time for us to open as normal tomorrow.”
