A music festival taking place in Carlisle city centre over the bank holiday weekend has attracted scores of people on its opening day.

The Within The Walls Festival, produced and operated by Mighty Boof Promotions in association with Carlisle City Council, aims to showcase Carlisle acts and other Cumbrian artists across two days.

Acts taking part in this year's event include Scotland-based rockers Merigot Boost Sound and folk pop trio The Postcard Band, who are back at the event for the second year.

Temperatures in the city reached 29C today, which drew hundreds of people into the city.

Joe Murphy, 28, who was watching some of the acts on stage this afternoon, said: "I didn't know it was on, to be honest. I came into town with some friends and saw there were people performing.

"We thought we'd get a beer and enjoy ourselves."
