A Cleator Moor man has appeared in court charged with two counts of arson with intent to endanger life following a house fire.

Karl William Carnochan, 34, of Norbeck Park, appeared before magistrates in Workington this morning. (Tuesday, December 6)

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on January 9.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the fire started at the address of the defendant on Sunday morning at around 10am.

Carnochan, who was arrested following the fire, appeared in court wearing a grey jumper and blue joggers.

He was also charged with possession of cannabis.

No pleas have been entered.
