Voters are being invited to grill the would-be MPs for the Workington constituency at an event in Cockermouth on Sunday.

A General Election hustings will be held in Christ Church, Sullart Street, at 7pm, on Sunday.

It will be attended by election candidates Sue Hayman (Labour), Roy Ivinson (Independent), Phill Roberts (Lib Dem) and Clark Vasey (Conservative). UKIP candidate George Kemp is unable to attend.

The event has been organised by Churches Together in the Cockermouth Area.

Paul Mogford, of the group, said: "We feel it's important Christians are active in politics. We want to provide a service to the town. This is a good opportunity for people to meet the candidates and ask questions.

"There are some big issues in this election, both on a national and local level."

The event will start with the candidates introducing themselves then answering pre-submitted questions. Questions will then be invited from the floor.

People are asked to submit questions to admin@kingscc.org by 10pm on Friday.
