A railway trespasser who tried to steal almost 100m of metal cable has been jailed.
Roland Brady Wilson, 27, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today.
He had admitted charges of railway trespass, theft of £200 worth of copper/steel cable and resisting a police officer.
It followed an incident on April 20 on sidings at Petteril Bridge in the city. A train driver raised the alarm after seeing Wilson removing cable.
The court heard Wilson, of Partridge Place, off Wigton Road, Carlisle, was in breach of a suspended sentence imposed earlier this year for a previous offensive weapon crime.
He was said to have "struggled with mental health difficulties throughout his adult life".
Recorder Ahmed Nadim sent Wilson to prison, activating the six-month suspended sentence in its entirety.
However, the judge imposed concurrent one-month jail terms for the April crimes, telling Wilson: "I am not going to add to your woes."
