A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital following a two-car crash near Carlisle.

He was driving a blue Peugeot 206, which was involved in the collision at the service station in Roman Road, Carleton, with a silver Ford Fiesta driven by a 18-year-old from Carlisle at about 9.40pm last night.

Police and a fire crew from Carlisle East Fire Station were called out to reports of a car on fire but arrived at the scene of a collision.

Police said the petrol station was evacuated as a precaution.

One car was on fire and the other was leaking fuel. Crews used one hose reel jet to put out the fire in the car and an absorbent pad to tackle the oil from the other, which was spilling onto the road.

The casualty, who is also from the city, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary with minor injuries.
