A Carlisle man was caught up in a crash which left a woman seriously injured.

The collision happened on the A75 Dumfries bypass at about 9.10am on Wednesday.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash - a white Daf recovery lorry, a white Toyota Yaris, and a grey BMW - which saw the road closed for more than six hours.

The Toyota driver, a 66-year-old woman from Lockerbie, was initially taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with serious spinal and chest injuries.

She was later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she remains in a serious condition.

The BMW driver, a 56-year-old man from Carlisle, and the lorry driver, a 33-year-old man from Dongan, Ayr, were both uninjured.

Constable Paul Watson, from the Police Scotland Roads Poling Unit, said: "We would like to hear from any witnesses who were on the A75 at the scene when the collision happened.

"We know that the road was busy at the time and anyone with any information which might help should call us at Dumfries on 101."
