The search is on to find a new principal to lead Carlisle College following its recent merger with one of the largest education and training groups in the UK.

Adverts have been published inviting candidates to throw their hat in the ring for the post, which has a salary of about £100,000 plus benefits.

Moira Tattersall retired from the college last year and vice principal Elaine Prince went on to become acting principal, a role currently filled by Steve Salkeld.

Those seeking to appoint a new principal say they want a "visible and inspirational leader" who will grow student numbers and awareness of the college across Cumbria.

They want the successful candidate to be able to further develop the city centre college both locally and within the group it recently joined.

Carlisle College became part of Newcastle-based NCG last month.

Adverts for the principal's role state: "This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and shape a well-established college, while playing an influential role as a senior leader within one of the largest educational, training and employability organisations in the UK."

Carlisle College has invested more than £30m at its city centre campus in recent years.

June 4 is the closing date for applications for the principal's position in Carlisle.
