TRAIN passengers are facing disruption throughout the bank holiday weekend as bus replacement services operate in Cumbria.

Network Rail has engineers carrying out work between Carlisle and Carstairs, closing all lines north of the border.

Several locations on the West Coast Main Line are affected by works too.

Services operated by TransPennine Express between Manchester Airport and Scotland as well as the Virgin Trains timetable are affected.

Passengers are not expected to be able to travel directly between Wigan and Glasgow until lunchtime on Monday.

Buses are replacing trains between Carlisle and Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.

Buses are also replacing trains between Preston and Lancaster and Carlisle until lunchtime on Monday.

There will be no direct bus services. Anyone heading to Scotland will have to change buses at Carlisle.

Passengers are urged to check with their operator or National Rail - www.nationalrail.co.uk - for updates about services and disruption.
