ENGINEERS worked throughout the day on Boxing Day to repair a burst water pipe in Cockermouth.
United Utilities had a team of engineers on site outside the James Walker plant on Gote Road.
Regular updates were provided by United Utilities after the problem emerged shortly after 7am.
Customers were reportedly suffering either a loss of water supply to their properties or low pressure coming out of their taps.
The last update posted at 3.50pm said: "Our team of engineers are still on site outside The James Walker Factory and it is taking us longer than we expected to complete our repairs.
"We’re sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we’re trying to get the repairs done as quickly as we can."
The leak had been isolated before 9am, which restored the water to the majority of affected properties.
