Residents in parts of west Cumbria may have experienced problems with their water supply following a burst pipe.

United Utilities said that some customers could see water coming out of their taps slower because of the problem.

Inspectors working for the company noticed the burst in a field on the dual carriageway near Sellafield in the early hours.

A spokesman said: "In order to help get some water flowing through your taps again our inspector has moved water from a different area into yours whilst we’re sorting out the leak.

"All customers should have water, however you may find that it doesn’t flow as much as the pressure will be lower."

A team of engineers has been requested to attend this morning to carry out the repair.

"We’re sorry about this and will try and get your taps flowing normally as quickly as we can, thank you for bearing with us," the spokesman added.

It was corrected mid-morning.
