A FORMER hotel in Brampton failed to attract a buyer when it was put up for auction.

The White Lion Hotel, in High Cross Street, remains on the market after its reserve price of £150,000 was not met.

The building, which has sat empty since March 2015, was among the lots at Pugh auctioneers sale in Manchester on December 6.

It was the second time the property has been put up for auction in little more than a year.

Pension administrator Suffolk Life bought the White Lion for hundreds of thousand pounds less than the asking price in September last year.

Despite a guide price of £225,000 it was sold for £155,000.

Suffolk Life is a self-invested personal pension (SIPP) business which often owns properties on behalf of underlying investors.

Pugh is continuing to market the property for the next six weeks.

The seller has not requested it be put into the next auction, in February, but the catalogue is open until January 27.

The White Lion underwent a £110,000 refurbishment when it opened in October 2014 as an Indian restaurant.

It closed six months later.
