A Carlisle bank manager has appeared in court accused of stealing nearly £162,000 from vulnerable customers over five years.

Adam Charles McGinley, 35, of Waldergrave Road, Carlisle, faces 29 allegations of theft, the first of which dates back to January 2011.

The defendant's place of work at the time of the alleged offences, the city's magistrates' court heard, was the English Street branch of Barclays in Carlisle.

The most recent alleged thefts are said to have happened on December 21, 2015.

Court papers released today show all of the alleged offences are said to have been committed in Carlisle.

At the Rickergate court, magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing on October 7.

McGinley, who was represented by defence solicitor Malcolm Dodds, spoke only to confirm his name, address, and date of birth.

He did not enter any pleas.

He was granted bail until his next court appearance. Court papers earlier gave McGinley's address as Richardson Street, Denton Holme.
