Residents in the Eden district will face another price rise to their council tax, after the district council approved its budget.

Eden Council will not be cutting any services, but has agreed a rise in its council tax precept of 1.99 per cent.

For an average band D property, this will be an increase of £3.72 a year or 7p per week.

The council’s resources portfolio holder, Councillor Gordon Nicolson, said: "A great deal of preparation has gone into agreeing a multi-year financial settlement with government, which provides a semblance of certainty when local government finance is subject to significant reform.

"Due to continued careful financial management we are able to safeguard the services our taxpayers’ value.

"From March 31, 2018, Eden Council will cease charging of Special Expenses in the district. This will help to simplify the council’s plans to devolve assets and services to town and parish councils."
