A THIEF stole a £189 CCTV system from a Carlisle shop because he was having problems with security at his home address.

Lee Gill, 32, of Stonegarth, Morton, admitted stealing the system from Carlisle's Maplin store.

The defendant, who has 47 theft offences on his record, committed the offence on January 15.

Defence solicitor Daniel Pygall told the court that Gill was having problems with security at his home.

He added: "But he didn't have the means to pay for it."

District Judge Gerald Chalk imposed a fine of £55, costs of £85 and compensation to Maplins of £189.

The judge told Gill: "If you continue to steal you will find yourself back in prison."
