Jake Bugg to play Carlisle gig

One of the most exciting acts of 2012, Jake Bugg, is to play The Sands Centre, Carlisle, the News & Star with tickets going on sale on Friday.
The 18-year-old from Nottingham, who counts the likes of Noel Gallagher and The Stone Roses among his fans, plays the venue on Saturday, March 30. Tickets – £15 plus booking fee – go on sale this Friday at 9am.
Jake’s self-titled album entered the UK chart at number one last week, knocking even Mumford & Sons’ album, Babel, off the top spot – one of the fastest selling albums of all time.
Thanks to the wittiness of his lyrics and distinctive blue-grass influences, Jake’s singles, such as Two Fingers and Lightning Bolt, have been compared to the Arctic Monkeys and The Coral at their very best. The NME has even referred to him as “the East Midlands Dylan”.
A performance at Glastonbury in 2011 on the BBC’s Introducing stage, where unsigned musicians can show off their skills, led to a recording contract with Mercury. Less than a year later, thanks to an appearance on Later... with Jools Holland, he has toured Europe, the US and Canada as support for Noel Gallagher.
Jake sets out on his own sold-out UK tour next month, at prestigious venues such as Manchester Academy, Edinburgh Liquid Rooms, London’s Koko, and King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, before more dates, including the Sands, in the new year.
