It’s the perfect family day out in the Lakes

THE weather held out for the 136th Loweswater Show on Sunday with over 1,000 visitors enjoying the event.
Held in the Lorton Valley, opposite New House Farm, the show proved once again to be a highlight of the agricultural calendar.
Livestock, horses, children’s games and fell races were just some of the classes and activities enjoyed by the crowds.
The gathering was one of the biggest yet, despite poor weather the day before.
Rachel Moore, of Mosser, near Cockermouth, has taken over this year as secretary from show veteran Marjorie Lowry, who decided to take more of a back seat for this year’s event.
Ms Moore said: “This year’s show has proved to be another successful event. There is something for everyone here from local crafts to livestock and even junior events.
“It is the perfect family day out and that’s why Loweswater Show attracts the crowds each year. The vintage class has been particularly popular, but the vehicles always attract attention every year."
The show field was filled with all things local, from arts and crafts and homemade produce to a beer tent and even a fancy dress parade.
The industrial tent proved a popular attraction with a vast range of entries including the best baked loaf and hand-crafted cakes, knitwear and preserves.
Catherine Hooper, 35, of Lorton Road, Cockermouth, said: “I have brought the family along today because my two children really enjoy the watching the animals and my husband and I love the local aspect to the show.”
