Paul Fursey, 31, from Bolton Low Houses, near Wigton, lost his life in a collision at the junction of the A66 and Great Broughton, outside Workington, last week.

Mr Fursey, who worked at the Asda supermarket in Workington, was riding a Yamaha bike when it was in collision with an MG Rover.

Paramedics were called to the smash, on Tuesday October 2, but he died at the scene.

The North and West Cumbria coroner, David Roberts, opened and adjourned an inquest into his death on Friday. A full hearing is due to take place in April next year.

Mr Fursey’s family paid tribute to a man they said was a “keen motorcyclist with a newly found passion for life”.

Bosses at Asda described him as a conscientious and hard worker.

The car driver, a 23-year-old Dearham man, suffered leg injuries.

Officers from Workington’s roads policing unit are investigating the crash.
