I did my national service training at hadrians camp june 51 -oct 51. I took part in the military tattoo during the festival of britain (dressed as a zulu). What a time.

I served in Hadrians Camp from Jan '62-Dec '64 and still have a mixture of memories from there. Hearing of its demise I can only feel sad for the new home owners who will have the ghosts of the Roman Legions running amock in their houses.

Oops. I meant to say I agreed with carlisle resident responding to Mr. G, not Mr. G.

Build them and ignore the protesters who are all thinking of themselves obviously and not the greater good !!

Have to agree with Mr. G. The Houghton residents who have responded to allegations of NIMBYism with condescending remarks that those who disagree with them "lack" education, aspiration and spend their monies on alcohol instead of premium-priced property in a satellite village, are not helping their cause or endearing themselves to those of us deprived of the joys of living Houghtonri-La.

Well mr g typical comment from a nimby...for your information i do actually live in a beautiful 2* grade 2 listed building which i may add that i own outright but you see i didn't feel the need to advertise the fact until you made that rather crass presumption that the smug self absorbed nimby would, that anybody who makes a comment against them must be inferior or jealous......well mr g i'm not and my so called" rant" was an observation that most houghton residents that have made comments on here seem to want to. "Call the tune" but not to pay the piper !!

Quite a rant there Carlisle resident, but your own lack of aspiration has no relevance to the proposed bulding of houses in a protected wildlife area of Houghton.

I suppose that Houghton residents will be supporting fellow sufferers by boycotting sainsburys then... ....oh and new restaurants and bars that have been allowed to get late licences even though they are in residential areas...,mmmm i think not, it must be nice to sit in your gilded cage, use all the facilities on other peoples doorsteps and then return home to the peace and quiet of your home...nevermind that you've waved a very noisy and cheery goodbye to your companions, slammed your car doors and revved up to screech off home leaving a trail of disgruntled residents...,heaven forbid if it should maybe happen to you ...,we all live in certain areas for our own reasons and things then change but dont think that just because you live in a perceived premium area that you should be immune

Great things statistics in that you can make them do anything you want. Carlisles population has dropped since 2009.
