Helicopter winches climber to safety from Lake District route

A father and son had to be rescued from Pillar Rock after the son got his knee stuck in a crack.

The pair released the knee after an hour.

Eighteen members of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called to help at 6.30pm yesterday.

The casualty was winched to safety by a Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer and transported to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary for further treatment.
