De La Soul among acts at Cumbrian music festival

Suede, Frank Turner, De La Soul, Miles Kane and the Happy Mondays are the first big name acts to be announced for this year’s Kendal Calling music festival.

With tracks such as So Young, Animal Nitrate, Beautiful Ones and Metal Mickey, Brett Anderson and his band quickly established themselves as one of the bands of the Nineties and the alternative to Britpop.

Frank Turner’s anthemic folk-punk has seen him rise to become one of the country’s biggest musical artists of the last few years, accruing a large and devoted following and placing him firmly at the forefront of the new singer/songwriter wave in the UK.

He has appeared at the festival twice before and due to popular demand, he and his band The Sleeping Souls are now playing a headline slot.

This year’s Hip Hop Legends slot goes to De La Soul.

The iconic band, who this year celebrate their 25th anniversary, had huge hits with Me Myself and I, The Magic Number, Buddy, and Eye Know.

If the festival isn’t bouncing already, it certainly will be when Shaun Ryder leads the Happy Mondays onto the stage.

The band that created ‘Madchester’ almost single-handed will include classics such as Step On, Kinky Afro, Loose Fit, Bob’s Yer Uncle, Hallelujah and 24 Hour Party People in their set.

The festival takes place at Lowther Deer Park, Hackthorpe, from August 1-3.

Weekend tickets cost £119.
