Karen Darke: To address health chiefs at meeting

Handcyclist Karen Darke, who was paralysed at 21 when she fell from a cliff, has been handbiking all over the world, including a 1,200 mile trip across the Himalayas just four years after her accident.

She is addressing the Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s annual members meeting later this month.

The meeting, which will focus on the importance of a healthy start for children and young people, will take place on September 26 at Lakes College, Workington.

There will also be information stands and fairground attractions at the event, for young and old.

A new mobile phone ‘app’, designed by Harry Tate, 12, will be launched at the meeting.

Flimby Primary School will be performing their award-winning routine ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ at lunchtime, following a performance at the Junior Rock Challenge in Carlisle.
