THE funeral will be held next week of a teenage cyclist who lost his life after his bike was in a collision with a car.
Mourners will gather to pay their final respects to Matthew Hamilton, 15, in Carlisle on Wednesday – 10 days after the tragedy on the city’s Durranhill Industrial Estate.
It happened in Brunel Way at 6.05pm on Sunday.
Police say Matthew, of Harraby, had been cycling with friends along a footpath. His bike collided with a Renault Megane.
Concerns have since been raised about the safety of the path because the exit is hidden between businesses and has no barriers at the end.
The funeral is being held at St Elisabeth’s Church in Harraby at 10.45am, followed by a committal service at Carlisle Crematorium.
A public notice states casual clothing is optional.
Floral tributes have been laid at the scene of the collision and a book of condolence opened at Matthew’s school.
Matthew’s parents, Emma and Derek, paid tribute to their “loveable, bright,” son, speaking of his passion for life and loyalty to his family and describing him as “a happy-go-lucky lad”.
