The funeral for a man whose death was linked to a dangerous drug will be held later this week.

Twenty-four-year-old Carl Fearon died in Birmingham last Saturday and police are investigating whether his death was linked to a drug known as GBL.

Hours after his death, 28-year-old Lynette Nock collapsed and died in similar circumstances at a wake for him.

Police are now investigating whether they both took the dance drug, a base solvent which can be legally be supplied as an industrial cleaner. A funeral service for Mr Fearon - who his family said had lived a ‘short but fulfilled life’ - will be held on Friday.

It will take place at St John’s Church at 10.15am, followed by Salterbeck cemetery. A Facebook page created for people to pay tribute to Carl had more than 1,000 followers yesterday, with friends posting messages for him and his family.

He was described as being the life and soul of the party by many, with “a huge smile for everyone.”

A post mortem carried out last week proved inconclusive and police say it could take weeks before the results of toxicology tests are known.

GBL, which becomes GHB once inside the body, is a Class C drug. Although it can be sold legally as a chemical agent, it is illegal to either sell, supply, possess or use it for human ingestion.
